Handcrafted in Kent

Shaped by Nature

Timber, individually turned and finished by hand.

Welcome to The Woodside Turner.

I'm Dominic, a woodturner based in Kent, creating unique handmade pieces from carefully selected natural timber.

Every piece starts with the wood. Its grain, colour, shape and natural character. All play a part in deciding what it will become.

Rather than making every piece identical, I enjoy working with the timber and whatever story it gives me — allowing each piece to develop its own character as it takes shape on the lathe.

The timber has its own natural character.

My job is to embrace it.

No two pieces of timber are ever quite the same.

Knots, bark inclusions, changes in grain, colour and texture can all give a piece its own personality. Rather than trying to make every piece look identical, I work with these natural characteristics and allow them to influence the finished form.

Every piece is individually turned, sanded and finished by hand, creating something that is genuinely unique.

From the first cut to the final finish, every piece is shaped by the timber itself.

Crafted Individually

Working by myself in my workshop gives me the freedom to select each piece of timber for its own purpose.

No two pieces of timber are ever quite the same.

A change in grain, an interesting knot, a bark inclusion or a natural variation in colour can completely transform a finished piece.

I don't try to hide those differences. They are part of what makes each piece unique.
